Audacity for Mac

Hey all, attempting to learn Audacity on my Mac. So far so go but I ran into
something I can't figure out.

I am putting in a audio track, background music and adjusting the volume on it,
which I am doing through the Amplify effect since that is the easiest for me to
figure out so far... However, when I add a new track say a track of me talking, I
want to raise the volume on my talk track but when I try to adjust the volume,
it affects the rest of the tracks. My question is, how do I adjust the track
individually? How do I select individual tracks to edit? I don't think there is
much of a difference between the Windows and MAc versions other than the
command key.

Any help is appreciated thanks!

Good morning. Selecting tracks is done by pressing enter to select and deselect. What I usually do to insure that things are selected properly is press Command-shift-A to unselect all tracks and then press enter on each track I want to select. Not having audacity here in front of me I believe shift-G opens the gain dialog where you can change focume. Note that this will actually not be preserved in the actual recording but will be preserved when you save the project. If you have more questions please ask. I've used this program extensively for professional NYC radio production.

thanks for your information!
Now do I go into the panel to achieve this? because when I hit enter on a track
in there sometimes it doesn't say it is selected and at other times when I
deselect a track, it remains selected etc.. thanks alot of ryour help sir

Be sure you are interacting with the track area. When you select or unselect the status is not always spoken but can be heard by pressing Vo-f3 for voiceover curser or vo-f4 for keyboard focus. They should speak the status of the track.

cool... when selected how do I interact with the track itself? I read some
documentation but when i hit the arrows left and right, all it does move the
focus to a vertical or horizontal scroll bar... I apologize at my ineptness with this
program as I am still green with it

Well I am happy to say that I have figured out for the most part as far as what I
wanted to acheive... the issue was that Audacity doesn't particularly like it if you
have quick nav turned on. After I turned it off I was able to do a lot more.
thanks for the help Willie, I will ask for your help whenever I have a question!

Excellent! Glad it's working. I don't use quick nav much so didn't think of that one. Thanks.

Here's a question... I am trying to start a track at a different time... I read there
is a time shift tool built in but it is not very accessible.. I downloaded a more
accessible time shift tool but it's not very clear on how to use it... Any tips or
suggestions?

I usually just sync tracks. lets say I have two trakcs and want to move one 3 minuntes in to the project. I select it, move the curser to the appropriate point and then go to the tracks menu and select aline trakcs right arrow in to the submenu and select aline with selection start and press enter which moved the selected trakc to to where the curser is.
